1920s Hopi Ahot'e Katsina

Buffalo Barry's Indian Art

The Hopi Ahot'e katsina is said to have been influenced by Plains Indian figures. This example is 12" tall to the top of the feathers and just under 10" to the top of the head. As is characteristic of katsinam from the 1920s its arms and hands are in the "belly-ache position." The rendition of the sash is also minimalist. A professional base has been added so that the katsina stands stably. It is a dynamic creation.
