Gilded Bronze Standing Figure From Thailand
The Meekins Collection
The sculpture depicts a celestial or guardian figure shown in a formal frontal stance, wearing elaborate court attire richly decorated with floral and geometric motifs and an ornate headdress surmounted by a tall finial. Elongated earlobes, refined facial features, and balanced proportions reflect traditional Thai sculptural conventions associated with divine or royal attendants.
The surface retains areas of original gilding with warm, age appropriate patina that enhances the sculptural detail. Raised on a tiered base, the figure displays strong vertical presence and fine craftsmanship, characteristic of late 19th century Thai bronze work. Such figures were associated with temple decoration and devotional settings.Thailand, circa 1890.
