Indian Bronze Votive Figure Lamp Base with bird
South India, circa 18th century
Cast bronze devotional figure standing on a stepped circular base, originally serving as the support for a ritual oil lamp. The hands are pierced to accommodate lamp elements, and a sculpted bird probably a peacock rises at the back — an auspicious symbol associated in South Indian tradition with divinity, protection, and sacred presence.
The facial features are softly worn from prolonged ritual handling and anointing, consistent with sustained temple or domestic worship. The bronze retains a rich, naturally developed patina with age-appropriate surface wear.
