This colorful quilled belt , with soft hide backing and beaded border was probaly made in Fort Providence, NW Territories, Canada.

Classic designs similar to 19th century belts, a long tradition. The making of belts remained popular through the 19th century and into the 20th centiry, and many are found in museum collections.    

Porcupine quills, natural and aniline dyes, sinew and cotton thread.
