Sanggori Head Ornament

Erik Farrow

The Sanggori head ornament was worn by high status Toraja men. They were said to have magical properties of protection and were also worn into battle. This finely made example has a beautiful form and multiple fullers and ridges, and the remnants of gold gilding as seen on earlier examples. The stress cracks near the central hole, wear and patina also attest to its age and years of traditional use.
