The origin of figures from the 12 distinct peoples of the Lagoon Regions of the Ivory Coast is usually known.  Sometimes, however, the influence of the artistic styles of different groups makes attribution less certain. This figure is probably Anyi, neighbors of the Baule people to their north whose influence can be clearly seen.

These figures were conduits to the spirit/ancestor realms and brought that presence to bear in varying ceremonies and circumstances.
