YAOURE MASK, COTE D'IVOIRE

Arts Tribaux LLC

The Yaoure people are closely related to the Baule.  Both are famous for finely carved masks and figures.  A distinguising difference is the zig zag design around the rim of masks. These masks are used for festive events and worn by young men who entertain with their aenergetic dancing. The pointed feature on the chin depicts a beard.
