Pair of Rose Mandarin footed porcelain dishes
Chinalai Tribal Antiques, Ltd.
One of the most exceptional examples of 19th century Qing period Chinese export porcelain, this matching pair of footed quatrefoil bowls displays only the slight variation that comes from being hand painted: otherwise the two are nearly identical. In unusual presentation, the vibrant figures and their story grace the bowls’ outer sides, leaving the inside center with the simple but graceful design of three goldfish swimming among seaweed under a flared lip decorated in gilt. Dishes like these were originally placed, brimming with fruit or other kinds of food as ritual offerings before home altars. This pair is unusually large.
