Mingei Jizai
San Francisco Tribal
A Japanese mingei folk art hearth hook (jizai). The jizai is made from the crotch of a small keyaki (zelkova) tree and has been well-patinated from exposure to the irori hearth. It has projecting tenons for hanging from the ceiling with a rope. The crotch has worn grooves from a kettle rope repeatedly rubbing against it.
