Pima Classic Fretted Basket

From the famous Bert Robinson Collection, author of the definitive basket book THE BASKET WEAVERS OF ARIZONA, published in 1951.  It shows the classic fret motive repeated seven times in the pattern along with the "stair steps to the well “design seen on the left of each fret image.  Mr. Robinson worked with the Pima tribe for years through the US government. He fostered their basketry skills and accumulated, perhaps the preeminent collection of Pima baskets ever at that time.  This basket was published in his book as one of the heralded Pima fret designs, as seen in the attached photos. It is also present in his spectacular collection room in a photo taken by my father when my father was a journalist for the newspaper in Phoenix, and I was a young man.  His trademark piece of white tape with his collection number on it still is present on the verso of the basket.  A cherished and charged.pristine basket with great provenance in pristine condition.
