A Navajo Women's or Child's Wearing Blanket
Old Saltillo Road
This Late Classic Period Navajo Child's blanket or Woman's blanket, ca: 1875-80, uses mostly native homespun single ply wool warp and weft. 2 colors of indigo blue accent the analine dyed red. Interestingly, there is a stripe of ravelled cochineal dyed red. Another interesting trait is that the weaver used a 3rd phase chief's blanket design system but wove it vertically rather than horizontally.
The Robinson Collection provenance is significant because it is an item collected between 1927 and 1933. The collection stayed intact until it was sold at auction by Bonhams, for the family, a few years ago
The blanket is clean, professionally restored, has no fade or damage.
The original Robinson Collection tag is included with the purchase of this blanket.
