AN IMPORTANT AND OUTSTANDING NORTHWEST COAST BENT-CORNER PAINTED BOWL

This large finely painted wood bowl depicts animals with their heads at each end, and superb painting on each side. The intricate composition is the same from one side to the other, with slight differences in detail. Brass tacks are used in place of opercula shells, which is uncommon on the Northwest Coast. Minor repair on one corner. This object is sold with a scholarly report regarding this bowl by Steven C. Brown, author and authority on Northwest Coast art, former Curator at the Seattle Art Museum.
