MAHAFALY ALOALO WITH FOUR MEN CARRYING KING, MADAGASCAR
Arts Tribaux LLC
This post was carved in commemoration of an important deceased person many months after death. It communicates to the ancestors to welcome the deceased into the world of the afterlife. The overall majority of “aloalos” have a zebu on top. Zebus are bovine animals with horns that traditionally represent wealth. Many other “aloalos” have birds on the summit. A smaller number have individualized figures on the summit that represent an important aspect of the deceased. In this case the king is being carried by four men indicating his status.
