Pre-Columbian Jalisco Pottery Thinker Figure Holding a Baby
Minerva Gallery
Pre-Columbian Jalisco Pottery Thinker Figure Holding a Baby from West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE-300 CE. A strikingly detailed pottery figure depicting a seated "thinker" figure in a contemplative pose, holding a baby in their arms. The figure displays elongated facial features, a prominent nose, and expressive eyes, characteristic of the San Juanito style. Adorned with painted traces of red pigment, the figure wears intricate arm and head ornaments. The naturalistic posture and emotive depiction of the subject highlight the exceptional craftsmanship of the Jalisco tradition. Ex Boeckman collection, Dallas, Texas. 9 1/2" X 7"
