"Heavenly Flower" talisman in rare tree form
Chinalai Tribal Antiques, Ltd.
Talismanic “Heavenly Flowers” from Thailand, usually large single free-standing phalluses, may also, but rarely, be found in the form of trees with multiple branches culminating in “flowers” of phallus heads. The trees were placed upon an altar or cabinet and worshipped with offerings of incense, flowers, food and/or colorful cloth ribbons or scarves; and sometimes with the application of gold leaf. Paying homage usually took place at the start of a business day with the hope for good sales to follow. This example, weighing 10.8 lbs, probably dates to the 1970s. Reference: Lee J.
