An unusual 17th century cast bronze Buddha seated in earth-witnessing posture on a separate cast bronze base, it combines the traditional expression of serenity with the strong character of a vernacular Lao Buddha, including unique facial features and elongated fingers. With unexpected detail, the Buddha is wearing a necklace, bracelets and armlet. The base itself is beautifully detailed with a sacred arch at center and cloud-like scrolls below. The 8-1/2” Buddha sits on a 5” high base.

Condition
Very minor pitting in keeping with age; the 4-5/8” width of the the Buddha from knee to knee is just slightly wider than the opening of the base making a marginally imperfect fit (see photographs)
