3 Hill Tribe silver bracelets
Chinalai Tribal Antiques, Ltd.
Three similar but distinct 19th century Hill Tribe bracelets from the Golden Triangle and south China present different versions of confronting dragons, two in high quality solid silver and one brass, each mounted on its own custom-made metal stand. After so many years of buying and selling tribal art, we are aware of the overuse of the word “rare”. But we started collecting Hill Tribe silver in the early 1970s — over five decades ago — and therefore know rarity when we see it: these remarkable bracelets fall into that category and still make us excited each time we see them. From left to right in the first photograph, the first bracelet (silver) weighs 160 grams and is 3” h (4-1/2” on the stand), with a 3-1/8” outer width, an inner width of 2-1/4” and a 7/8” opening. The middle one (brass) weighs 99 grams and is 2-1/2” h (4-1/2” on the stand), with a 3-1/8” outer width, inner width of 2” and a 1” opening. The bracelet to the right (silver) weighs 110 grams and is 2-5/8” h (3-1/2” on the stand), with a 3” outer width, inner width of 2-1/8” and a 5/8” opening. The prices from left to right are: $1170, $745 and $820.
