ANTIQUE CHANG NAGA HEADHUNTER PENDANT
Harry L Neufeld
Chang Naga – late 19th century – a warrior’s headhunting pendant, a very powerful amulet worn only by the most worthy, with a brass spiral support and two beautiful, browned, extremely old sap or perhaps fire-darkened carved ivory "teeth", substitutes for the highest status version of such an adornment (note warrior second from left in picture) which would have been comprised of real teeth from a tiger, the most sacred animal and symbol of the Nagas – 4 ½” x 4 ½”
