Ancient Greek Terracotta Female Figure – Tanagra Type
Greece, Late Classical to Early Hellenistic period, circa 4th–3rd century BC
A finely modelled ancient Greek terracotta figure of a draped woman, standing in a relaxed contrapposto pose. The figure wears a flowing chiton and himation, the folds softly rendered and retaining traces of the original white slip. The serene facial expression and understated modelling are characteristic of Tanagra-type figures, which reflect the elegance and daily life of Classical Greek society.
Such figures were widely produced in Boeotia and beyond and were intended for domestic display or funerary contexts. An attractive example with pleasing surface wear consistent with age.
