A Mexican Bandera Sarape
Old Saltillo Road
This Mexican Bandera (flag) sarape is an early version, ca: 1880, woven with French floss, which is an Industrial Revolution era machine spun, machine plied, analine dyed ultra fine yarn invented in Europe in the early 1860's. It also incorporates another yarn invention of the era...."variegated color dying" or "ombre" yarn in Spanish.....the entire center diamond celebrates this new yarn dying technique.
Value was enhanced by paying to have the end fringes intricately macramed. An unbleached muslin hanging sleeve is included on one end, used in a Saltillo Sarape show in the 1990's.
The length dimension does NOT include the fringe
