A NORTHWEST COAST NUU-CHAH-NULTH DANCE MASK (NOOTKA).

Anthropos Gallery

This Nuu-Chah-Nulth (Nootka) dance mask represents a "wild man of the woods" type with the style of carving and pigment decorations of the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th Century. It is carved of red cedar, and has the patina of native usage. Although not highly refined, it is an authentic antique Native American ceremonial mask.
