ANCIENT BAMBOO FIGURE, CHINA

This bamboo carving depicts Shou Lao with a crane. He is the god of longevity, one of the three star gods in Chinese beliefs. Statues of Shou Lao are popular birthday gifts for elders. Qing dynasty (1644-1911).
On the back is a wax permit stamp for export and a paper label in Chinese that translates to Nanjing Cultural Relics CO, no 93-147.
It is a free standing figure that is attached to a black piece of painted wood with museum wax that can easily be removed.
