

ASSAM TRIBAL PAIR OF HEIRLOOM METAL SNAKE BRACELETS

Possibly Karbi Anglong people of Assam state, a tribal group of Tibeto-Burman origin, as are the Nagas and other hill tribes of Northeast India - very old and worn, perfect, rare pair of "snake" bracelets with extremely worn raised designs signifying the sun encircled by its rays, and also bands of dots at the curves of the bracelet arms and at the junctions of the "snake heads" - centuries-old heirloom metal of past Assamese empires, worn smooth with age, with probable scorch marks on both pieces, sometimes a sign of tribal or governmental retribution on a defiant village - 3" x 3 1'2" x 2 1/2" - very good condition
