A FINE COLIMA SEATED HUNCHBACK DWARF, COMALA STYLE, PROTOCLASSIC.
Anthropos Gallery
This fascinating ceramic seated figure of a Colima hunchback dwarf is leaning forward with his hands on his knees with an emphatically defiant gaze through openwork eyes. The red slipped shoulders, contrasting with the reddish brown overall slip, with surface root markings and dendrites, highlight his musculature and his focused expression. The incised eyebrows and pierced earspools combine with the excellence of deeply incised eyelids to enhance a compelling presence. The "Horn of Power" upon the top of the headdress is the symbol of the shamanic status of this memorable fellow. The spinal deformity is indicated by a protrusion upon his back.
