This is a 16" x 4" x 3.5" original and vintage carving of 'The Pine Tree' by the father of Cordova carving in New Mexico, Jose Dolores Lopez, 1868-1937. The 'Pine Tree' is illustrated in the book 'The Woodcarvers of Cordova', being in the collection of the Denver Art Museum (photo). It has a different base than this one. Fine condition.
'The Cats', 11.5" x 12" x 8" is an original and vintage carving also by Jose Dolores Lopez, 1868-1937. A similar carving, 'Animal Musicians' is illustrated in the book 'The Woodcarvers of Cordova', being in the collection of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, NM. (photo). Signed on bottom. Fine condition.
