Edward Weston, 'Eaton Family Dog' Less 20%

John Fillmore

This is a 7.25" x 9" Original and Vintage gelatin silver print on paper by the important California photographer Edward Weston, 1886-1858. There were only two copies of Weston's photograph of 'Luong Ming', the Eaton Family dog, in the estate of Marjorie Eaton, 1901-1986. The first was sold in 1994, and it sold at Sotheby's London on 11/12/2007 for $ 15,458. The image is of the family dog, that was photographed on commission by Weston, by the Eaton family of Palo Alto. The commission was to shoot the entire family. They were big supporters of the arts in the Bay Area, especially the California Shop of Arthur and Lucia Mathews. This photo is signed in pencil on the mat, with a letter of provenance from the heir, a family snapshot of the dog from the early 1920s, and the auction listing when this photograph was offered at Sotheby's in 2011. Fine condition in a new frame.
