CHANG NAGA SHELL DISC NECKLACE

Harry L Neufeld

Shells circa mid- to late 1800's, glass tubes mid-20th century - Chang Naga and neighboring Tuensang district tribes' women's adornment, sometimes worn as a single shell, sometimes in multiples - this one with three oversize, well worn, smooth chank shell discs from the South Indian Ocean, all with fine patina and markings, would have conferred considerable status to the wearer - approximately 3 1/2" - 3 5/8" wide, 3 3/4" - 4" high - excellent condition
