Dave DeRoche - Pre-Columbian & Art of the Americas
Fifty years ago Dave DeRoche fell in love with African and Pre-Columbian art, then Oceanic and Tribal Asian, and he has been buying and selling it ever since. He has been long known for sourcing stunning artworks of great age, authenticity, and aesthetic impact from private old collections and selling them discreetly to noted collectors and dealers. While still passionately pursuing these treasures and sales, and visiting favorite old client-friends, now at 75 Dave feels compelled to offer pieces and collections to newer generations of avid collectors, burgeoning dealers, re-thinking museums, expanding colleges, diverse foundations, and the new breed of enlightened philanthropists.
Dave DeRoche has:
* Advised museums and served on museum advisory boards
* Appraised * Authenticated
* Bought and sold more than 12,000 authentic examples of tribal art over 50 years
* Conceived and produced seminars, panel discussions, and more than 50 lectures
* Curated exhibitions * Given 120 lectures on African art to students
* Helped collectors by exposing Fakes and Non-Traditional, Non-authentic pieces made to deceive and sell
* Hosted a landmark walk-in public gallery for 17 years in downtown San Francisco, with dozens of: *theme exhibitions and shows; *sales; *visiting dealers hosted; *trunk shows; and, *professorial lectures for nonprofits
* Lectured to seven museums on Fakery & Authenticity in African Art
* Represented countless old private collections, heirs, and estates, and placed their treasures in younger collections and in institutions
* Served as a consultant to eight auction houses
* Sold and loaned art objects to museums, exhibitions, and publications
Dave avidly continues to consult, advise, exhibit, represent, and buy and sell from his home in serene Piedmont, 10 miles east of San Francisco, with the help of his wife and CFO, Nancy. They warmly welcome collectors at all stages of collecting--and they recommend newer and younger collectors wanting to collect with care and passion but perhaps limited resources, read Dave's essay in this show titled: Collecting Opportunities.
