Mavasta Honyouti - Moon and Stars Carved Panel

This is master katsina artist Mavasta Honyouti’s carved panel on cottonwood root. On the top is a Soohu (Star katsina) and on the bottom is a Muuyaw (Moon katsina). Mavasta has entitled this, “Moon and Stars.” It is 13.5″ tall and 3″ wide. It is incised on the back “m.honyouti.com” Mavasta is featured in my recent video that is posted on this website: buffalobarry.com. He is also featured in our book, "The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers, 1880 to Present." Mavasta has won many awards at Santa Fe's Indian Market and diverse Heard Museums shows.
